About Shauna

Working in a variety of mediums including watercolor, oil, and pastel, Shauna's paintings are saturated with light and color, informed by many years of painting from life. Her paintings of the landscape, still life, animals and the figure reflect a solid academic training as well as her ability to communicate the energy and the unique atmosphere of a scene. A popular demonstrator and teacher, Shauna takes pride in her ability to convey to others how to see and understand the visual world in a way that makes their artistic journey enjoyable and productive.

"Because of how I see the beauty of nature my paintings are exuberant with color and energy. I paint each day feeling the tradition of America's plein-air masters close behind me, immersed in the light and atmosphere of the day. There is simply no way to describe the intense experience and connection that occurs when painting from nature."

"I believe my artistic journey is like a musical instrument; taking time and practice to master. I believe that what people call talent is better described as the passion that gives me a profound joy every moment I am deep inside the discovery of a beautiful scene. My entire artistic life is dedicated to achieving the skill, observation, knowledge, and nuance that makes communication through a simple, well-placed brush stroke as beautiful and descriptive as a perfect word in a poem."
